The Mire was founded four years ago by a group of students striving to create a place for Springs students to display their artistic accomplishments. With the attack of covid came the downfall of The Mire as there was no staff to keep it running. Last spring, upon noticing the gap in our school publications that had yet to be filled, co-heads Adelia Crawford, Campbell Swanner, and Emma Cate Rutledge worked to revive the magazine that had lost its former glory. Gathering an amazing staff comprised of Lucy Craig, Minh Ha, Ember Szaflarski, and Zizhou (Justin) Wang, the Mire team has worked hard to present to you the biggest issue in the Mire history.
We hope you enjoy exploring Springs’ talent as much as we did. We would like to specifically congratulate the winners of our four categories:
Poetry: “She Keeps His Ghost Around the House” by Neil Barrett
2D Art: “Green Tree Frog on the Springs Lake Causeway” by Dr. Sides
Prose: “College Essay” by Emma Cate Rutledge
Overall: “College Essay” by Emma Cate Rutledge
We would also like to thank our judges, who kindly participated in our blind judging.
Without further ado, welcome to the Mire.
